Crib Recall - Proactive Entrepreneurship Or Business As Usual?

Stork Craft Manufacturing of British Columbia (Canada), has announced the largest recall in the nativity story. They are recalling 1.2 million drop side cribs due to entrapment and suffocation. The affected cribs were distributed in both the U.S. and Canada between 1997 and 2004, and have already led to four infants being suffocated, 20 traps and several others wounded. Parents can order a free kit to change the cradle and to prevent further tragedy. The cribs were sold in major chains such as Walmart, Target and m BabiesRUs.



I "not much of a complainant or a miser, but the Stork Craft story really irritates me. While my girls are good at the age of the cribs past, I appreciate Stork Craft recalling their product and prevent further tragedy. But reread the first paragraph of this statistics. Does it not seem strange that a company would 12 years to realize that their cradle is faulty? Or more to the point, it seems curious that dozens of children and families would being injured (or death) to realize that they might need in order to investigate their product and make a correction.



Twelve years on the market, what happened during testing and federal approval before them? Call my cynical, but I'm seeing big retailers driving 1.2 million product units in a very popular crib. In the land of corporate clients, Expediency is king. If you move 1.2 million units at $ 100 - $ 400 each, apparently there is not much motivation for their own policy and responsibility. Nor is there a lot of pressure from the Big Box retailers to your dangerous product from their stores. What happened to the companies to protect their customers from predatory suppliers? There should be a protest against a company that one million-plus units of product pushing without pro-active about security, especially where children and babies are concerned.



And there is a outry against Big Box retailers who make it happen. Unacceptable. The only reason that the recall because it had happened, there were too many wounded and killed for not to happen. And that is just clearly wrong. A death. An injury. Look. Two dead? Set performance and FIX IT. These are children for goodness sake.Our company has lost its compass. We as a nation have lost our compass. There is an "Atta boy!" response when it generates profits, whatever the cost in human life and health.



We are more concerned with making the bottom line than doing what is right. We have a deep cleaning of epic proportions.I write a blog on online marketing for small businesses, so why am I so damn politically? Because everything the government does affect you and me - small business. We have to be political. We need the debate to go for the common good (remember, "We the People"?) - Not Republican, Democrat, independent or Rogue. In view of the debate, we need to be informed. We can not achieve anything while stunned and mesmerized by the last dog & pony show.



We are so obsessed with the sound byte - 'the management of the story "- that we need to miss the larger picture.We a nation obsessed with the truth. Compulsive about having a moral compass. Passionate about leading and innovating. Narrowing our recycling metal, glass and plastic, but real innovators in products and ideas. We must stop wasting valuable time and heads back stories that substance. Taking advantage of others wounded. Lying and "spiders" and polling to determine how to implement the prescribed agenda.
